    Do mini DV drives exist?

I'm talking about an IDE drive you would pop into a 5 1/4" bay in your computer. Then, instead of having to sync your DV camcorder to the computer, you would just put the tape into the drive. Do they make drives like this? They should-- It would save wear and tear on your camcorder, as...

Sharp VLNZ105U DV camera not recognized

It was working fine, now it doesn't work at all. The problem: When I plug in the firewire cable, Windows doesn't recognize it-- it used to come up in Device Manager as "imagaing device"-- now, I just as well plug the other end into my ear, for all the good it does. Has anyone else...

How do I restrict access to my computer?

Running Win98SE. Don't want others to be able to get into the computer at all. When 'puter is turned on, it goes to a password screen. But all a body has to do is click cancel, and Windows loads up anyway. I want it where if they don't know the password, they ain't gettin past that screen...

Firewire for Windows - Is it gonna happen?

Maybe someone could point me to a good article on firewire's chances. Should I even bother investing in firewire stuff? I'd like a scanner & a webcam. But they virtually don't make them for firewire. It just makes no sense to me. These are devices that are high throughput, and yet you can...

Quiet sound in videos- how to boost recording volume?

It's quite annoying- when I playback recorded videos from my webcam, I have to crank the volume to sort of hear it. I have the mic input volume maxed out in control panel. Is there any inexpensive hardware / Software / other fix? I just want to be able to easily boost the recording level...

Dial Up - My password changes, Can't Connect

It worked OK with Win 98 - I could connect to Juno from the separate dial up conenction. I don't know a lot about DUN info-- not to savy about modems & such :( I am using Opera instead of Internet Explorer . Maybe that has some effect - Juno keeps giving me the message that I need I.E. 4 or...

Dial Up - My password changes, Can't Connect

No, Not using a shortcut. It won't even log on right the first time, and immediatly comes back with the number of astericks in the PW box all messed up. I can log on OK directly from Juno software, but it's a pain.

Dial Up - My password changes, Can't Connect

I make a new connection to the internet, and it won't connect - says username/PW incorrect. When I click on the connection icon again, either the password is suddenly twice as long, or not there at all (Yes, I have "Save Password" checked). Is there something wrong with W2K or is it...

    Already have SP1? Ver 5.0 Build 2195

I just installed W2k on my computer. (So far, no problems.) I was told that the disk I bought includes SP1, but I want to make sure. "About Windows" returns Version 5.0, Build 2195. Microsoft's website is completely unhelpful in this >: Also, Is the "Critical Updates...

Can Win 2000 Read Win 98 Partitions?

My brother said they were incompatible. If I buy Win 2000, Delete my Win 98 Partition (C:), & Install 2000, upgrade drivers, will I have trouble reading data on my old Win 98 Data Partition (D:)?

Is there a sound card w/ 1/4" Inputs?

I have a Peavey stage microphone- Was using it with an 1/4 - 1/8" converter, but the weight of it seems to have broken the input on the soundcard (Diamond Monster MX300). Are there any inexpensive soundcards that can take a 1/4" plug directly? Or maybe other viable alternatives?

Only 42 of 128 MB Free at bootup

Is this normal? I went to MS config & unchecked all startup programs, and after booting up, I only have 42 of 128 MB Free. Does Win 98 Really take up that much space? Maybe there's something I've done to take up so much RAM? ALso I've heard that if I get more memory, win98 can only access...

    CD Burner - free/cheap software?

I have an older Mitsumi 2X CD-R - the software, Parassi CD-Right, doesn't cut it (Doesn't recognize newer file after updating & burning again). I haven't been able to find any decent free or low-cost burning software. Mostly I do data, not so much music. I'd like something like Nero, but...

    Name Brand Memory Quandry

(I know this has probably been covered before, but I searched & didn't find much) How important is it to get name brand? If so, which brands are best? Are Hitachi, Toshiba OK? TIA

    Fast Scanners

They have upped scanners to 9600 DPI or whatever, but you never see a word about scanning speed. I'm not just talking about data transfer. My scanner (a cheep UMAX) takes 15 seconds just for the bar to return to home after a scan. Are there any plans for (reasonably priced) scanners that can...
