Thanks for the reponse Thomas. I have tried that, but the issue at hand is that I want the new icon to disappear only when a user has read an announcement. Similar to how forums bold new posts until you read them. Thx- DairyProgrammer

Making Sharepoint Annoucements stand out?
When we post a new announcement in sharepoint, it gets that 'New' icon. Right now, the icon is visible for about a day, then disappears regardless of whether a user has read the announcement or not.
