Hey avspool, which hotfix is that and whats the link? I have got around the problem for the moment by turning hardware accelaration down to basic in the sound tab of dxdiag + the performance tab of advanced properties of audio playback in Multimedia control panel. This shouldn't be necessary...
Scratch that last bit actually, everything is now back to where it was (as in avspool's post, though I haven't tried loading directshow). This is wrecking my head. It doesn't just affect the sound in some games/apps, it also affects both sound and visuals on DVDs under PowerDVD.
I recently bought a new system with similar specs to avspool's and was having exactly the same problem.
My processor is an AMD Athlon XP 2500+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.833GHz. I have the same RAM as avspool and my card is an NVIDIA GeForce4 MX Integrated GPU. Am using win98se (same version as avspool)...
