Cheers avspool, it took a bit of tracking down but I got the fix and it seems to have cleared up the problem! For anyone who wants this hotfix, go to http://www.media-assistance.com/English/ and follow the link to downloads, and then to drivers and updates and then click on and download...- czarner

Hey avspool, which hotfix is that and whats the link? I have got around the problem for the moment by turning hardware accelaration down to basic in the sound tab of dxdiag + the performance tab of advanced properties of audio playback in Multimedia control panel. This shouldn't be necessary...- czarner

Scratch that last bit actually, everything is now back to where it was (as in avspool's post, though I haven't tried loading directshow). This is wrecking my head. It doesn't just affect the sound in some games/apps, it also affects both sound and visuals on DVDs under PowerDVD.- czarner

I recently bought a new system with similar specs to avspool's and was having exactly the same problem. My processor is an AMD Athlon XP 2500+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.833GHz. I have the same RAM as avspool and my card is an NVIDIA GeForce4 MX Integrated GPU. Am using win98se (same version as avspool)...- czarner
