I have been having success picking up process and disk information on red hat 5 from snmp point of view but am not having much luck picking up CPU and memory utilisation?
Looking around on the web I cant see anywhere where it syas about CPU and memory configuration in the snmpd.conf file...
Also I have a PC with windows installed, and a CD with red hat iso image on, does anyone have clear instructions on how to install Red hat from iso image on a desk top PC? Does the PC need to be wiped clean or can i install over the top?

Many thanks for all your repsonses, very helpfull. Red hat will be for company use, for us to install at other companies. We just want to get a feel for it for when we install it. What version would I need for testing on a PC for company use? I presume we have to pay for this aswell...

I want to install Red hat on a Desk PC, firstly which version do I need to download? Also what kind of spec PC would I need, memory, CPU, Disk etc?

Hi thanks for the reply, that was the default red hat repository according to a website I was on, Is that not the correct offical one? Also I presume u cant get access to there offical one if u dont have support with them anyway ?

Not sure if you guys will know this but can u use the redhat "ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/enterprise/$releasever/en/os/$basearch/" repositories if we are only using the 30 day trial version of Red hat ? I would check the account but its not my account and the persons whos it is...
Hi , sorry to bother u guys again. Still having problems getting snmp to work on red hat 5, I have installed net-snmp-5.3.3.pre1.tar.gz source (./configure make make install etc) and have edited the snmpd.conf , I expect this to be the problem area. Ca anyone suggest the correct way to start...
Hi, sorry to bother u all again. had a bit more success with sorting yum out but wondering what ftp site I should be using in the rhel.debuginfo.repo file for ftp downloads? at the moment its :

Thanks for the reply, I am trying to get snmp working on this port. Does that mean snmp is not configured correctly and when it is, the port will be opened on default?
Some more info , when I test from a windows box "telnet 'linuxbox' 161 I do get could not open connection to the host on port 161, connection failed. does this point to a problem with the red hat server or something thats inbetween. The firewall is diabled on the linux box so all ports should...
