I am thinking about getting a digital camcorder which will no doubt connect to my PC via Fire-Wire, so I will need to install a Fire-Wire port on my PC.
I have heard of some cards which have both Fire-Wire and USB2 ports on them, so it seems sensible to get one of these as it will be cheaper...
Thanks for this, but it hasn't cured the problem. I've been told that the reason I get the NTKERN.VXD error is because there are some files missing on Win98 SE which are only on the Win 98 disc.

I don't know what exactly may be causing your sound problems, but it could well be the driver. Updating it, or removing the card and putting it back in a different slot is easy enough though. I'd never done it till a few months ago, so I can promise you its not as scary as it seems!

You don't say exactly what the error message is. Is it "The NTKERN.VXD device loader(s) for this device could not load the device driver (code2)"?
