I am posting this here so it just might help a few people searching for an answer to a common glitch in Vista's Windows Explorer. This might work for this particular problem:
—The user keys in a partition or drive, intending, for example, to look into his Drive (X). Drive (X) does indeed...
Lightning is seen at the speed of light; thunder is heard at the speed of sound. As the speed of sound varies (with altitude) around 750 miles an hour, the thunderclap is heard roughly one second per mile's distance after the (virtually) instantaneous lightning strike. You can count 1001, 1002...
Yalamo, what you discovered is actually the usual configuration on a computer case. USB 2 at the back; USB 1 at the front. BUT, when I say "is", I really mean "was". Zillions of computer cases of not too many years ago conform to that.
I carry an extension cable with my USB stick, which is...
Thanks for such a quick reply. I'm pretty sure I can follow your advice. That was something I hadn't thought of doing at all, and it makes sense. (Sounds logically logical.)
It will be a few days now before I can get back at it. I'll report back here as soon as I do. Thanks again. :)
I have a sweet-running system with an old BIOS, too old to update, and I keep it working pretty well. No problem.
But recently I began toying with some very old, "alleyway" computers—P1s and P2s—just to teach myself a few new tricks and have some fun. No matter what shape I put these oldies...
Yes, igb123, quite right. If you look back over the authors of the postings, you'll see we're all in agreement. The fellows were just making sure they'd covered all the bases, as I was myself.
-- I'm not sure where I'll go from here, as I can't afford better; but I did have a multiple-boot...
Well, I'm not sure whether you realize it, but collectively you guys have worked as a well-knit team, which most any company would consider an asset, in presenting a pretty three-dimensional perspective of the yin and yang of the computer industry and its evolution.
It's slightly amusing...
Thanks, guys. Linney, that's already in effect. gPalmer, already done were 1 and 2; now I've done 5-Hijack This; removed a few. I'm familiar with Black Viper, but I don't think I've got a lot more room to move on that. I think things are pretty clean.
My thinking re Millennium is that it is...
Would you get any additional info by running Task Manager, and watching Performance, and comparing what you see between the two computers? If you see one CPU--but not the other--peaking up to 100%, you might be able to establish exactly what is causing the slowdown.
Maybe. It's just an idea...
Having thought about things for a few days, I'm now considering removing my XP Pro SP-1, reformatting, and setting up Millennium again. Before I do, I'd like to hear whether this would make much difference, or just result in a faster slow speed.
I have lots of little programs, Internet...
If you don't mind, I'm going to add this data, which is above my limit of knowledge. I am now inclined to think it is the tech-specs for my having a bargain basement system. If someone would like to interpret the gist of it for me, I'd appreciate it. I ran SiSandra to get the following:
<...
Good morning, fellahs. Thank you for your responses. I'm about to check out your links, Linney. Meantime, for gPalmer and paparazi, oops, this ain't looking good--indeed, I have 479MB of SDRAM, and I'm beginning to think my problems may be simply in that fateful combination, as you suggested...
I hesitate to place this question here, because I know I'm asking for trouble. So, caution to well-meaning advisors: this really IS a system that SEEMS to have all the tweaks in place. Plus, when I say slow, I mean it takes a second or maybe three seconds to bring up a new window--it is not...
Thanks, Wolluf. I'm going to do some homework and follow up what you said. Actually, it does make a difference to have absolutely no "thought process" required as various drives are accessed from the different locations. That kind of activity should be totally fluid, so it just...
Soaplover, I've downloaded Bart's PE Builder. It looks like fun. Thanks lots!
-- There was a spanking new one, October 13th. I guess he's always working on it.
-- Had lots of trouble getting it. Most of the download sites seemed to be blocked. Maybe that was my own anti-practically-everything...
