I've got it. For those who might want to do this... I grouped all the pattern text and then selected the group. I chose Effects > Powerclip > Place inside container. I pointed the arrow at the larger letter R I then right-clicked the object and toggled "lock contents to powerclip" to allow me...

Hotel text is what I'm after. I had looked it up in help as "vertical text" and figured the text orientation drop-down on the format text > paragraph tab would do it. Thanks much for the tip. Any ideas on why those items are greyed out for me on that tab? c.

I'm a CorelDraw ultra-newbie. I'm trying to place text in a circle around a logo, one string at top and one string at bottom. Fitting the text to the path is not a problem, and the string on top looks good, only I can't figure out how to tweak the text on the bottom to get it the way I want...
