first, can you give us the exact error message on the web browser ?
also just to see if you have any connection, try this:
start menu ---> run ---> cmd (or 'command'for win98)
then type: ping www.google.com
if you have internet connection, you should see
Pinging www.google.akadns.net...
that options is if you have another computer running windows nt server (they called it domain) basically a kind of network setup for 10 or more computers, if you have a home network, the setup you have is good now
