I think this might work for me.
I did not understand that it started timing from the time the job was queued vs. the time the job actually began writing.
It is not "perfect" for me, as I use the same selection lists for all jobs, Full/Dif or Inc. This means that even the incs and diffs will...
I have several servers covered by policy that together take more then 24 hours to perform full backups on. There area already 2 drives in my library.
Is there any way to make the run window last all weekend for the Full jobs?
Hi All,
Every now and then I find a stray media, and would like to list the Media families on it for proper filing.
I can't seem to find the appropriate report - and under Netbackup I would query the catalog.
Is there an easy way to do this?
No such thing.
However, we do our Ghosting from images installed on FAT32. We then use the sysprep process to run the convert utility to convert the FAT partition to NTFS.
This gives us NTFS, and the ability to edit our images.

If your Domain Admins are realy ok with you removing them from the local Admins groups o your computers, then use Group Policy to add your Site Administrators Group to the local Administrators group of each computer. The feature of Group Policy is called "Restricted Groups."
When the policy...
I am using BE 9, and
I currently send tapes offsite to Iron Mountain.
Is there any way to find out which tapes are in a given job so I can retrieve them *without* creating a restore job, and waiting for the prompts?

Sorry guys - it is not in the above KB link, but somewhere else in the KB is an article that mentions that UNICODE (not UUENCODE) format pst and osts can only be used with Exchange 2003. Exchange 2000, 5.5, and any IMAP/POP can only use ANSI.
And, users of outlook 2002 and above will generate the message every time they resolve email addresses! This makes the event useless fo security logging.

You can't do this with Group Policy, but, you can with Connection Manager.
Connection Manager allows you to create Dial Up connections with specific properties, and, distribute them to customers via an .exe.
Serach Microsoft for "connection manager." and there will be plenty of info.
I am setting up Group Policy installs, and publishing it to most of my Engineering users. Later this year, I will be assigning it to the rest of the company.
Create an Admin install point (see previous post).
Download and unpack tht the Office Resource Kit (ORK), and use the Custom...
I am moving from NetBackup to Backup Exec 9, and I am looking for a way to eject tapes, and move them into a vault, automatically.
Is this possible?
Also, can I get a report, by Vault, of which tapes will be overwritable within the next X days?

Are they in different sites?
MS has a whitepaper called "How Windows Timer Service Works: Windows Time Service." It lists a hierarchy of server/site combinations that a DC will go through looking for a reliable server.

Backup and storage are good considerations markdmac - but that is what quotas are for.
And, BackupExec and NetBackup (the two I am most familiar with) have the ability to skip files/folders in the backups. Tell the users that no files from "My Music" will be restored, and eliminate them from...
