Rich,
Does this problem happen just from this one computer, or from multiple computers? Multiple servers or just this one? How big is this directory?
This has been discussed in other forums, something about Windows XP refreshing the file list. Big directories (lots of entries) are subject...
Some of the folks who provide advice here are the Corporate Security type. One or two here might work with your Corporate Security guys.
Do you really want to post, in an open forum, that you are trying to bypass security policy?
Why not try and work with your CSO guys, not against them...
Chris,
Domain vs workgroup will have no affect on your ability to access the printer, just your ability to see it in Network Neighborhood. So don't remove the laptop from the domain.
Now, if the server (computer with the printer) is running XP Home, is the Guest account there activated for...
Whenever I have a question about any registry key related to any GUI operation, I use Regmon (free) from Sysinternals.

I'd add SpywareBlaster.

Then install HijackThis on all the computers, and run it periodically. HijackThis isn't subject to the false positives / false negatives that AdAware and MSAS are.

Clearing the cache helps in that there's less old and useless stuff for the browser to search thru, in search of what is needed. If what's needed is not cached, searching thru everything else first delays loading what's needed from the internet.
If what's needed is cached, deleting it, along...
Most recently, this sort of strange behaviour was observed after KB885250 was applied. But THAT patch has been out for many months now.
Google on "KB885250" to find others like you.

I don't know how to go from user name / account to single computer name. And if one person was using multiple computers, this wouldn't be accurate anyway.
PSExec, running PSLoggedOn, will give you the name of everybody logged on to any computer in the domain / workgroup. You can search the...
Here's how to find out if a registry key is involved.
Get http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/regmon.shtml Regmon (free) from SysInternals. Regmon will show you whenever any registry entry is being referenced.
Start Regmon, then open a DOS window, and change the checkbox. Watch Regmon...
The last few times I upgraded NAV, I switched to doing it as part of my yearly system rebuild. "Format C:" is the most effective way of un installing any Symentac product.
Last year, I changed that. I stopped re installing NAV, and found better antivirus protection.

Stevie,
Start by diagnosing the scope of the problem.
Post "ipconfig /all" and "browstat status" here for the problem computer, and for one or two working computers. I'll generate a little diagnostic script that you can run next, after I see the browstats and ipconfigs.

Rahmanjan,
OK, 1 computer, 3 users? Easy.
Create a file, say MapShares.cmd, one version for each of the 3 users. Put a shortcut to MapShares.cmd into the Startup list for each individual user.
Each version of MapShares contains a list of folders:
###
net use j: \\server1\share1
net use k...
Rahmanjan,
Yes, you can run a script in Windows XP to map shares at logon. You can even write it so it maps selective shares, based upon user name.
There are plenty of ways to do this. How about some specifics as to what you have, and what you need?
Is this XP Pro on a domain, or is this a...
Thanks for the update. Please do let us know what the resolution is, when you're done.
