I finally had a chance to edit the registry for the ide controllers but still no luck. I'm beginning to think that maybe the IDE Controllers are bad. Any other suggestions? bwadding

I had that same symptom on a 98 machine. Run a virus scan if you have virus protection.

I'm assuming that your D drive is a CD-ROM try going to the C: and creating a WIN98 directory c:\md c:\win98 that will create it. then go to d:\win98 and type copy *.* c:\win98 this will copy allt he cab files from your CD to the Hard drive. After it's finished, go to c:\win98 and type setup.
