I think that we can agree that everyone is different and has different needs. For me, I couldn't work for a company that has outdated software. Old software maybe, but 20 years old is too old for me. With that said, I can understand why someone may choose to stay with a company like that. After...
I don't think that the problem is with the datagrid. I thought it was at first but I just did an experiment where I loaded the results from the reloaded values into a completely different datagrid. I had the same problems. This tells me that the problem is either with the DataAdapter, DataTable...
I've looked around and haven't found a usuable solution to this issue. I hope that you can provide me with some assistance. I have a application that calls for the user to select a database/table to view data from. At that point a datagrid populates with the information. This works fine except...

I think that there is a fundamental difference between your point of view and mine. I don't know how much experience you gained from working somewhere that used a computer that was 20 years old. You say that you, as a employee offered alot of value to the company by being able...
I think that we all can agree that the key is to be a self-starter. I think that this is more important in IT then any other field. Alot of this is becuase our industry evolves so often and alot of this is because our industry is so expansive. For me, I always amazed at how expansive IT really...
<i>The best way to view your career, and your value to any present or future employer, is to look at what you can do for your employer's business, not for "the computer."</i>
All that you said is well as good but doesn't do much to help the person who is stuck using technology that is not...
I had the same issue. I knew Access extremely well but wanted to get into development using tools that developers had respect for. The company that I worked for had an IT department that did alot of development in VB6.0. I was able to convince my boss that we'd be better off developing...

Also, VBA and VB6 (Access VB is VBA) are fairly similar in implementation whereas the difference between those and VB.NET is completely different (i.e. it's OO and the others aren't). </quote>
I'm aware that Access is VBA. I was making a distinction between Excel VBA (which is what must...
I think that, like any other good design philosophy, we have to think in terms of what's good for the system users and not so much about what's good for the developers or the system maintainers.
Its very inconvienent to have to search through questions asked for VB.Net 2002 and 2003 and hope...
I'm going to put my 2cents in and say, yes. I think that the current setup will eventually prove to be too confusing. Otherwise, we should have the vba and vb6.0 forumns added together.
To be honest with you, I signed onto Tek-Tips today just to see how many people were using the new...
In that case, I would suggest getting them to maintain an XML listing online. Have your client grab that list (via web request, soap, TCP client, or even a VPN tunnel with ADO.Net). Once you have that listing it's just a matter of creating the form and display how ever you want it.

Actually the applicaiton will not include any outside channels that I need to subcribe to. It will only have the 12 channels offered by the client. They will be maintaining there on program listings.

I have a few free magazines that I get weekly that I've found to be pretty helpful. They are Information Week, Network Computing, and software development magazine. They're not as good as MSDN Magazine but the info is good. And its free.
