I have a Linksys WRT54G. Periodically the wireless signal drops out; sometimes it comes back on its own, sometimes it requires a hard reboot. It's annoying and I want to replace it. I know about the firmware fix but that may not be an option for various reasons (other people rely on this...
I would return it if possible. If not try a different machine with a different OS - I had an external drive that died on a Windows 2000 machine but was still readable on Windows 98, which at least allowed me to get the data off of it.
thanks, I appreciate the help, especially the tip about FAT32 and the 32GB limit (again, things I should know but either forgot or never actually knew at all!)
The FAT32 partitions are for a future 'nix installation and to enable easier sharing of data between different OSs (a Mac, a Linux box...
hm, interesting. Thanks.
In terms of partitions, I'm thinking the following:
40GB NTFS
40GB FAT32
40GB FAT32
Do I need to do two NTFS partitions in order to do your method?
Re: reinstall, I'd like to but there are some apps that I need to use that will be a pain to reinstall. I want to run...
Hi,
This is something I feel like I should know how to do but I'm ignoring my pride and posting the question.
I have an IBM Thinkpad T40 with a 40GB HD. I bought a Western Digital 120GB HD and want to transfer the operating system to it. To do this I bought Partition Magic. I copied the...
Looking to upgrade the HD on my Thinkpad T40 (40 GB isn't getting it done). Anyone have any advice on a brand, and also on an upgrade strategy? I'd rather re-install Windows but that might not be possible right away, so image cloning would be needed. Thanks and happy holidays.
Good advice + great people = tek-tips" - definitely.
A question: can I do this with the drive in the external USB case or do I need to pop it out and put it in a tower?
Okay, this is a new one on me: I have a 40GB Seagate drive in a USB 2.0 case. When I go to format it, Windows reports the drive as 1.99 TB and won't format it. This is both via Properties in Explorer and also in the Computer Management console. Tried running CHKDSK at the command line and was...
$12,500 when your actual cost is $29? That's some profit margin. :-)
My Thinkpad is still under warranty, and they even pay shipping both ways, so at least it doesn't cost me anything. Only thing they didn't offer was a loaner, but at least I can keep the hard drive.
Well, I finally called IBM (actually, they called me within a couple of hours of my filling out a form online - pretty good service, so far). They want to replace the usb ports (aka, the motherboard). Now to figure out what to use while the machine is away...
Thank for your help, everyone.
With building PCs, I think the main question is time and ability. If you have the time and the skills, go for it. Dell sometimes uses cheap parts, especially on the lower end machine. After struggling with a couple of mass-produced PCs, I started buying from a small builder in Colorado called...
Yeah, it's all USB 2.0 stuff (device, cable) and they work on other machines. BIOS is fine. The thing is, the ports USED to work, but they got increasingly buggy over time.
Is there a utility that can clean out old USB drivers so I can reinstall them? And would I want to install the USB drivers...
