NIS mount point change???
Hi, Not clear with as to what is the mount point in your auto_master.Anyway check your /etc/nsswitch.conf file to check the preference of your search for the map file. If it is NIS then check out your auto_master for the mount option of your home dir. Hope I am clear..and it helps.- bragee

Unable to log in as root
If you do not want to reboot into single user mode the possible solution would be to create a user account with UID as 0 and do the necessary changes to the passwd file and then delete the user.- bragee
