Mike,
I am sorry I don't have a different answer for you but I would suggest removing SP2. My mom installed SP2 on her PC and her modem stopped working as well. Kind of.
When she tried so connect to the Internet, she gets a message saying that the modem cannot connect and to manually dial the...
Well, I think I have been successful. I tried to login to my home PC via its public Internet address. I did not get any errors and I had to login two times. Is there a way to tell if you are connected remotely vs. locally?
One point of clairfication. What do you mean by?
"And then use the...

The link above is a graphical login to a computer on the Net using Remote Desktop. Neat.
Cool! Thanks.I am not at my PC right now - I am at work on a Win2000 box. Sounds straightforward enough. I will check it out when I get home. Thanks, again.
So as a final overview. If I am going to use billpatt as a username, I will need to add billpatt as a user to both my PC and the remote. Additonally, I would use the same password for both accounts on both machines. On my machine billpatt would be a remote user and on the remote machine...
Ok....... So far, so good. So what you are saying is that I need to create a user account on my machine and the remote machine that are the same with the same passwords.
Thanks, bcastner. I will get the user on the remote PC to go to www.whatismyip.com so she can give me her IP address. As far as setting up RD on both machines. I go into Control Panel, System, Remote and click on the box for Remote Desktop? Is that it? Nothing else? Thanks, Bill
Hello Folks,
I want to set up a Remote Desktop (RD) session with another PC. Both PCs are running XP Pro and both PCs have DSL. I have done a lot of reading on the this subject and I find I am getting more confused. I know I need to set up both both PCs to accept RD and I have done that. I just...
Thanks. You are probably right. The problem is that at times one or the other or both versions try to load into memory at start up. Since 6.2 is a newer version, I figure it makes sense to allow 6.2 to run.
Hello folks,
I have been uncerimoniously chosen as the PC help guy for my mom, mother in law, grandfather and grandmother. Most of the users have fairly new PCs with XP Pro. For the most part, I just need to take control of their desktop so I can un-fix, the fix that they put in place - if you...
Hello Folks,
If I am running MS Messenger 6.2 in XP Pro. Why would version 4.7 still be on my PC? I have tried to remove the 4.7 version but I cannot. Also, the 4.7 version is in a different folder than 6.2 so I could just delete the folder but I am sure that there would still be entries in...
Thanks folks. I was doing some work on my PC last night and Norton Alerted me to a Master of Paradise Trojan Horse. Norton must have read my post. ;-)
As I have learned, a hardware firewall is good for incoming traffic but does not protect from threats that originate on my PC and connect with a...
Thanks for the ideas. I tried a few things last night including running a registry cleaning program and another program which helped me idenify programs which were not necessary. The registry program cleaned up a bunch of entries and the the other program allowed me to disable 5 programs which...
I am running Norton Firewall and I also have a Netgear wireless access point from home. I have talked to several IT folks and I keep getting different answers. Is it necessary to have both a hardware and software running at the same time? Thanks, Bill
