    thanks for your reply but I arent ttrying to remove it from AD I have multiple exchange servers on the network. I just need to remove Exchange from one server gracefully. Any more ideas?

    To send an email the smtp service must first resolve domain.com into an IP adress. This is done using DNS. If their are no MX [mailer exchange]records in the dns server(s) that your email server is using the mail will NOT be delivered - simple as !!
