If you goto the properties of the vpn connection. Check and see if the dial another connection first box is checked.

Yes it works very well. Just establish the vpn connection between the appliances and make sure that you can ping between the two networks. Make sure that you add the proper entries in the host file. I have set several of these up for clients and they work very well.
