just a little update, I opened it up and looked at the power rating on the PSU. I don't remember exactly what it was, but it was in the 215W range...wow. But since it turns out I'm not getting a new computer :(, I'll just hafta survive for another year until I get to college. Thanks for the...
I did try a ydl mail group, but they gave me replies on linux-ppc and all that good stuff. If I have to I'll get into that, but I was just wondering if anybody here knew, because the website was real sketchy on the comptibility of the laptops. Thanks anyways though.

3 exams down, 4 to go!
the Aptiva is one of those little flat almost-laptop-sized cheap things that are completely unupgradeable (I don't know about the power box). The processor has a green (feels like copper) heatsink but no fan, only a case fan in the back. What I've decided to do is this: I've...
hey guys,
I have a Macintosh PowerBook 5300cs that I'm considering putting Yellowdog Linux on (www.yellowdoglinux.com). This is a version of Linux that is made specifically for compatibility with most macs. I've looked on the website, and they say while the 5300c is compatible with YDL, the...
well, I've narrowed it down to a couple of things. I've turned off all screensavers and monitor services, and relied solely on the power switch to cut the monitor off. This has gotten rid of two of the problems, but it still sometimes quits and reboots. Further investigation is continuing...
I do have a Maxtor 3GB that was in there with the smaller Maxtor. It was a slave, so I'm guessing I can leave the small Maxtor alone and play with the jumpers on the Quantum.
Another little update, for those who actually care :P
I upgraded my RAM; now I have 49mb. I also switched my video card to a 2mb. These are all generous donation from my fiends. The new hard drive is the problem. see above.
Hi all,
I have an IBM Aptiva (specs page can be found here http://www5.pc.ibm.com/us/products.nsf/$wwwPartNumLookup/_2156D1N). I've had this thing since about 1998, and for about 5 years it has been freezing and rebooting mysteriously. I have put win98, win98SE, and win2000 on it to try and...
hey guys,
I've got another little problem. I'm just fiddling on my old computer; please don't waste your time here if you have better things to do. I recently got from a friend an old Quantum HD, about 116mb. I want to put it in along with another relatively old Maxtor, but both are master by...
Nakash is right. Either you need to update the BIOS, or look in the disk manager in Win2k to see if the partition is a drive. It might just be that the hard drive came with two partitions or something like that.
Well as recommended by a fellow forumer, I'm here to give an update. I eventually decided to screw it all and put NT4 for all of the first drive and 2GB of the second (the last gig is saved for Linux). Yay for me, NTFS detects all of the second hard drive! Funny thing about NT4, it made a 4MB...
ok ok see the other thread for whatnot. I admit I am tinkering, but it's not like that's the computer I depend on for my work. NT4 works fine FYI. I had Linux 6, and I tried to upgrade to 8, ubt I couldn't get a driver that worked with the boot disk etc. So I installed the packages through...
