To change disk name you can play around with mirroring if you have it enabled ... RAID1 You need to free up one disk, then create a mirror of the data you want to move it to ... once the data is synchronized you can remove the initial copy of the data ... You can also rmdev the device and...

Looks to me as a corrupted install image ... if you cannot extract .. maybe you are out of space. Is the software java dependent ? Which version of Java you have installed on the AIX machine ? ... (lslpp -l | grep -i java) hope this helps.

This is a wild guess .. did you setup asyncio ? .. Are you setup in a disk array ? .. What Raid level ? ... Another wild guess ... Did you try to setup release behind read write on the filesystem mounted ? It seems more a UDB problem ... can ou get to the latest service pack ?

I think what you want is to keep a copy of the history file and indicate timestamp. the history file has a limited number of line it remembers ... I would setup a cron job which would copy the history file, add a time value and append the whole thing to a file you will keep for the record...
