1) what kind of cost am i looking at?
Depends whether you wanna run peer-to-peer (two wireless cards) or an infrastructure network (using an Access Point).
Prices will range from USD$300-400 for an infrastructure(1 unit Access Point and 2 Wireless PCMCIA cards), working downloads in terms of...
You're welcome dude :)
Yup exactly like LAN cables.
WEP keys - hmm, I don't know whether you can actually configure the PC Card to enable the WEP keys - gotta get back to you on that.
But yeah, let it rip, but just be careful of war-drivers around your neighbourhood. They might just be...
Nope, you don't need an access point. You can do peer-to-peer.
Just turn your WinXP into a gateway and use your Win2k to share the Internet connection. :) Wireless 802.11b works the same way as LAN cables (RJ45,etc)

Can't help much without specific details of your product name, etc, multi-vendors?
I don't have an IBM so I can't say much, but here's suggesting that you might wanna call IBM support up to try your luck.
I understand that WiFi cards are divided into 2 chipsets (I stand corrected), Proxim and another - maybe you could another PCMCIA card that uses the other chipset type...
Jornk, correct me if I am wrong, but a WAP basically is a dedicated PC/Laptop with a WLAN card turned on in the network?
But, comparing the two (WAP vs. WLAN card) - what's the coverage range like?
I was thinking of saving cost and buying 2 PC cards instead of a WAP and a PC card. Turning the...
