    Thanks for the replies. I am chalking this one up to a bug in Crystal 9. I was using the built-in sum and count functions to generate these group totals.

    The results aren't scientific notation, or at least don't appear to be. Although the lowercase 'e' does appear in the displayed value, observed values are things like "5e%72" or "-8e1f" - it is sporadic. There are three columns which are calculated in a similar manner, and the strange results...
