I am running SMS SP5 on W2K SP3 on its own server, have about 300 clients and 4 DC's (NT4 SP6a) and have a problem with configuration. I rebuilt the SMS box with exact configuration of the old server and did not have any problems-for a while.
Now, when I try to update certain client machines, I...
Thanks ndouglass!
I have decided to do the rebuild and move to new hardware as you have suggested.
Another question - Do I need to remove the client from each computer or can I take down the original SMS box, rebuild and the clients will reconfigure using the new site?
Can I give the new site...
I need to move my SMS server from an NT4 domain to a new W2K domain. Then I would like to upgrade the installation to a new server (more power!).
Current configuration:
SMS 2.0 (SP4) on W2K Server (SP3 with most patches)
SQL 2000 (I think SP2)
SMS Clients: 250
I want to know if it would be...
The company I work for is planning to upgrade to a W2K AD domain. My suggestion to management:
To prevent bringing down the entire network and/or a very long weekend performing a upgrading to the W2K domain, we should bring up a W2K domain within the same subnet of the NT 4 domain.
I believe...
Thanks, Rod.
The articles you made reference to helped me solve the problem.
For others that may have this problem in the future, my solution was:
1. Go to Systems Management in control panel and repair installation of remote control.
2. Update site.
3. Use the command line tool for the first...
When I try to use the remote.exe to connect to an SMS client using the IP address, I get the following error message:
"Security rights to run Remote Tools on this client have been denied."
I have to use the remote.exe because the actual computer does not show up in collections. On...
As soon as I try to connect to a remote computer via SMS SP4 remote control tool, it reboots the remote client. The client shows up ok, but as soon as I click the remote icon, it happens.
I have also tried to connect via remote.exe using the IP address with the same result!
Any suggestions?
I was wondering if anyone can help me out on this one. I have been running out of disk space because the arcserve log files are so big. So, I have run through the steps of pruning etc. with no great success. I read the other thread on this issue and initializing the db was my next option...
I am having trouble making changes on my SCO Openserver 5.0.5 (eg loading drivers, software, mounting drives-including my cdrom) because I do not understand enough of the commands.
Is there a gui interface that can be loaded and accessed to make it a little easier for me? Is there a windows...
I think this link will help. I used it for my installation of the exact setup you are talking about. Good luck.

The long and short of it:
"Unlike NT directories and files, share information can not be restored directly with...
ARCserve cannot restore share permissions when files / folders are restored to "original location" - Please tell me this is not true!!!
What is the point of restoring if you have to manually recreate all the shares!
