    You are wise! I didnt have excel sized to take up both screens. Doing so allows using onw indow on each screen. Thanks very much

    I would encrypt it (assuming you are using XP & NTFS). If anyone ever saw your macro they would know what file name they would need to create to allow the sheet to open, which is why fumei says this method is not secure.

    I tried that method first, excel won't allow me to drag windows onto the second monitor as some other programs do; the window I'm dragging just disappears. Any other ideas?

    Opening as two instances allows me to have separate spreadsheets on each screen fine, however I often have to copy -> Paste Special Values from one spreadsheet to another, and if I have them open as 2 instances this isn't possible, as Excel tries to insert the copied data as an object - it seems...
