Unfortunately, this upgrade has so far been a failure. I read other web chatter about this type of upgrade and apparently most people just plugged in their new dual core CPU and had no problems. Most never even cleared the CMOS.
I installed the dual core CPU (factory sealed boxed CPU with...
I have a good running homebuilt AMD system using an ASUS AN8-SLI Deluxe mobo and a Socket 939 AMD 3500 cpu. The BIOS is v10.16 which supports dual core. Other than physically changing the cpu and heatsink, do I only have to clear the CMOS before installing an AMD 4800 dual core cpu? The...
Hello jayneparadis:
When you say that "the CD is the one that comes with new computers", are you referring to a recovery CD that some PC manufacturers use or a Windows 98 CD? If it is a Windows 98 CD, you might check out this link...
Hello again deskstar:
I checked with:
http://www.pricewatch.com

Hello JonathanB:
It's a really tuff question. Results are often mixed. Sometimes you can restore some of the updates from msinfo32>tools>version conflict manager. The catch is: how do you know that the restoration will bring back only uncorrupted files? You might bring back the problems that...
Hello again sml160:
From the info you've given, one possibility would be a corrupt mouse driver. Navigate to Device Manager>Mouse and click the plus sign. Highlight what drops down, click remove and confirm removal. Close out of Device Manager. Reboot and see if your system corrects the problem.
