Hi there,
Every time I write a few lines of text and then attempt to select a font from the type menu the program crashes and quits immediately.
Has this happened to anyone else, and does anyone know why??

This may be a really basic question...
but I've not used Illustrator to do this before and am wondering if it possible;
in Quark Express when you import a grayscale tif image you can choose the background and foreground colours of it and it changes all the grey/black for the foreground...

Does anyone know if this is possible - I am trying to open QuarkXpress 6.0 docs in InDesign CS.
am I missing a Plug-in like the message InDesign gives me suggests?
Or is it still not possible?

I have turned some text to outlines - wanting to join the paths created for each of the letters together - but Illustrator keeps refusing to let me join the paths - giving me the "must be part of the same group, not on a text path etc etc" error box...
In Ill 8.0 I would avoid this by...
I have installed a copy of Suitcase now, and followed a guide to using fonts in OSX, and all seems to be working ok now.

can I ask you how many fonts you have in your font library in your system folder? I am running through the tech notes from JSM to try and sort out the problems I'm still having and he writes "Font Book handles font management for casual users with smaller font libraries"... do you not use...
Started with Fontbook - started having problems so switched to Suitcase - then had major problems.... so reinstalled everything (all system software) and went back to using Fontbook.
I have installed Font Finagler following the advice of a few different people - but I don't think it's anything...
I have very recently bought my imac G5 and have installed OSX Panther with the update 10.3.8 onto it. I am a graphic designer, have installed Adobe CS, quite a few fonts, a printer driver and MSN messenger... nothing revolutionary or dodgy.
The computer is taking almost 2 minutes to start up...
well, you'll be able to have a good laugh at this one....
so I followed exactly as you did - copied all the fonts into one folder, then placed that in Classic System Folder, and then - like an idiot, thought "hmmm, when jm said 'Ditchall the present collections' I suppose he meant all existing...
