You don't get viruses on switches/routers as the only thing they run is the ios, they don't run anything else they just accept or decline packets based on the configs.

Personally I would go notes as this would reduce your licensing costs as far as Netware and groupwise are concerned. I think that you have to have a licence for each object in the NDS these days (not sure on this one)...
