If you are running a domain with only a PDC and no BDCs it would be a good idea to have at least one BDC. If your new server is going to see extensive use then I would just install it as a member server of your present domain. A BDC does not have to be an expensive server. You could use a...
I'm not sure what is causing this problem. The first place I would check would be printer priorities. Maybe a priority has been set that allows certain users (in this case the one sending the large print jobs) the rights to print jobs before other users can. Remember, 99 is the highest...
I didn't notice whether or not you had any BDCs. You really should have at least one. You can set up WINS on the BDC quite easily. Then make all 250 workstations WINS clients and that should solve your problem. It will make browsing for network resources much easier.
Do you have another server already set up as a domain controller? What you are trying to do is bring this server into a domain and if there is not already a PDC present you will not be able to do this. The domain is created when you install server and make it the PDC. You will probably have...
I agree with jonscott8. You might start with test 70-222 (Upgrading to Windows 2000). There are a ton of companies who will eventually be upgrading and will need people who know how.
I can't answer your NT 4.0 print question however, I can talk a little about 2000 print services. We run 6 separate 2000 servers as file and print servers. On one server we have 108 printers installed. It is extremely easy to install and administer those printers. If you go the 2000 route I...
If you are running a logon script from the netlogon share of your domain controllers, that logon script should be running in a command box. The top of the command box should display the server name that is authenticating the logon.
At a command prompt type:
nbtstat -A ipaddress
The A must be a capital A. Replace ipaddress with the actual ip address. This will also return the MAC address.
If a workstation is a member of a domain then the Global Domain Admins group is automatically made a member of the local administrator's group. Thus, if a user logs into a workstation that is a member of a domain and that user is a member of the Domain Admins group, then that user has full...
When adding computers to a domain you must be part of the Domain Admins group or your account must be given the special right to "Add Workstations to Domain". For some reason we give technicians this right and they still can't bring the PCs into the domain however, if we place their...
LophtCrack is a password auditing tool used to determine if you have weak passwords on the network. You may be able to use it to crack the adminstrative password. We have used it with quite a bit of success where I work. The link is below:

Yes, we keep the same name, same permissions, same group memberships. Just the passwords change and of course the individual who is assigned the account. However, no personal information about the individual is placed in the account.
Thanks All for your replies.
Every six weeks we have to delete and recreate 765 student accounts. It would work out much better if we could simply change the passwords on those accounts without having to re-create them each time. Anybody have any idea of a painless way to do that.
This behavior can occur because both Windows NT Server version 4.0 and Windows 2000 Server can drop idle connections after a specified time-out period, which by default is 15 minutes.
To resolve this behavior, use a command to change the default time-out period on the Windows NT Server 4.0 or...
