Thanks for your suggestion, it was the only way out, I had indeed reinstalled over an existing os and as you said the viruses were still lurking. I have rebooted from an xp cd and am now enjoying myself trying to track down the appropriate drivers for the computer :/ Should have it sorted...- 13245768
