If there is both a CD-ROM drive and a CD-RW drive installed in WinME or Win2K, Explorer shows them both as "Compact Disc" followed by the drive letter. They may or may not have different icons. In the win2K forum I was able to find a way to rename one of the drives by a simple...
Pbxman,
I agree. But this is for a friend and so far we have been unable to convince him to change to 2000. Thanks for the information. I will try winME forum.

In Win2k and ME if you have both a CD-ROM drive and a CD-RW installed they are both listed as "Compact Disc" in Explorer along with their drive letters and icon. Just for convenience I would like to change the name of one to CD-RW (or something like that) . I have not found a way to...
I haven't found the cause of this anomaly yet but am not sure that it is related to SP2. When I try to boot using safe mode with networking the computer hangs as with the normal boot. However, I can boot into safe mode (without networking) and the following entries are present in Device...
Thanks for the help. There was no blue screen... just hung during boot process. The problem was solved by removing the nic (Realtek 1839) and rebooting then reinstalling the nic. Right after installation of SP2 and safeboot I looked at device manager. Under Network Adapters there were 4...
After installing SP2 I am unable to boot to the operating system in normal mode. I can boot to Safe mode but I cannot boot to Safemode with Networking. Seems nobody else is having a problem. Other than uninstalling SP2, does anybody have a suggestion how to troubleshoot this? Thanks.

Andy: Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I have posted recently about a similar problem with an HP 970cxi but so far no response. The suggestion re: bios and cables have all been tried but no success. Thank you

We are having a problem with the Apr2001 drivers from HP. Even uninstalling the printer and all hp* files in win2000 (winnt) and rebooting then installing the drivers (either the home set or the corporation set) results in a complete lockup when the computer is rebooted. Anybody else encounter...
In line with my previous post I have a friend with a similar problem. With win2k OS, HP970cxi printer connected via IEEE 1284 cable to port lpt1 (bios has ecp/epp or epp set). If the printer is on when the computer is booted up the printer feeds a sheet part way and then pauses with the resume...
When I startup my computer the HP4000 sends a sheet with some (about 5) symbols in upper left corner as first sheet of first print job. This also happens after a reboot. Does anybody know why this might happen and how to avoid it? Thank you.

I am trying to change motherboards in a computer with win2000 pro installed. It always seems to require a completely new install. No change of hardware except the motherboard. Is this to be expected and is there a way around the problem? Thank you.
