1) Check the compatability of the database. ( EG. 60 = 6.5,70 =7.0 , & 80 = SQL 2000. If the version doesnt match contact your SQL DBA to make the necessary changes. Be carefull before you do it. )

2) Use TCP instead of named pipes as the protocol for the backup agent for SQL.
Regedt32:
HKEYLOCALMACHINE/ SOFTWARE / COMPUTERASSOCIATES / ARCSERVEIT /DSAGENT / CURRENT VERSION / AGENTS / DBASQL*

change the value of useTCP to 1.

Recycle the backup agent RPC server service on the sql server
