Other instructions for making this cable/adapter have the color code used in flat wire. If you have a regular 568B wired Ethernet cable, you can attach a 9 pin female D-submini connector to it using the following color code:

DB9 pin  color     RJ45 pin
1, 6, 7  org-wht   2
 2       wht-blu   5
 3       grn-wht   6
 4       wht-grn   3
 5       blu-wht   4
 8       wht-brn   7
 9       wht-org   1
