BAS & PAYG Upgrading FAQ
========================

The Business Activity Statement (BAS) is the form that is used in Australia to report the Goods & Services Tax (GST) figures to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). If you wish to lodge the BAS electronically via the internet you can use the Electronic Commerce Interface (ECI) software provided by the ATO.  Amounts withheld from Vendor payments as Pay As You Go (PAYG) Withholding need to be reported annually in the prescribed format as PAYG Vendor Summaries.  The BAS & PAYG reporting dictionary provides facilities to generate all the required ATO reports and communicate with the ECI software.

For Versions 5.5 and 6.0 of Great Plains, there were specific Australian GST builds of the core Dynamics.dic which included additional functionality needed for Australia like POP Line Level Taxes and Tax Periods.  For v7.0 onwards, all the additional functionality was included in the standard dictionary.

When upgrading GST versions of Dynamics and the BAS dictionaries, there are some guidelines to ensure that all the tables are correctly upgraded.

Upgrading from v5.5 GST
-----------------------

The upgrade path for v5.5 GST to v8.0 is v5.5 GST >> v6.0 GST >> v6.0GST SP1 >> v7.x >> v8.0.  For the BAS to be upgraded successfully we need to add the following steps.

While still on v5.5 GST, BEFORE UPGRADING to v6.0 GST, it is important to make sure that the latest BAS build, BAS v5.50b1.4 (Last Modified: 21-Aug-2000) has been installed and each company that uses the BAS has been logged into with the user 'sa'.

While still on v6.0 GST SP1, BEFORE UPGRADING to v7.x, it is important to make sure that the latest BAS build, BAS v6.00b15 (Last Modified: 03-Sep-2003) has been installed and each company that uses the BAS has been logged into with the user 'sa'.

Upgrading from v6.0 GST
-----------------------

The upgrade path for v6.0 GST to v8.0 is v6.0 GST >> v6.0GST SP1 >> v7.x >> v8.0.  For the BAS to be upgraded successfully we need to add the following steps.

Upgrading from v6.0 GST SP1 or later
------------------------------------

The upgrade path for v6.0 GST SP1 or later to v8.0 is v6.0GST SP1 (or later) >> v7.x >> v8.0.  For the BAS to be upgraded successfully we need to add the following steps.

While still on v6.0 GST SP1 (or later), BEFORE UPGRADING to v7.x, it is important to make sure that the latest BAS build, BAS v6.00b15 (Last Modified: 03-Sep-2003) has been installed and each company that uses the BAS has been logged into with the user 'sa'.

Upgrading to v8.0
-----------------

The BAS v8.0 hot fix should be installed after installing the v8.0 code before running Great Plains utilities for the first time.  This will correct some problems with the CD build of the BAS code.

Installing v8.0 SP1
-------------------

Please install the v8.0 hot fix before installing SP1.

NOTE: If the step of logging into each company as 'sa' using BAS v6.00b15 is missed, you can still perform this step on v7.x using BAS v7.00b4 (Last Modified: 03-Sep-2003) or BAS v7.50b4 (Last Modified: 04-Feb-2004).

Archives of the latest BAS code for all versions from v5.5 to v8.0, can be found on the Development page of http://www.winthropdc.com. You can't obtain v5.5 or v6.0 code from PartnerSource anymore.
