Alternative to MSConfig for Windows 2000. by jrbarnett
Posted: 18 May 04

The Windows 9x/Me and XP operating systems include a program called MSConfig for modifying programs set to load at startup, which is useful for troubleshooting slow bootup/logins and disabling virus/malware applications that may have found their way onto a computer.

Windows 2000 itself does not include MSConfig at all, but a nice application called Startup Control Panel by Mike Lin performs this functionality admirably, and is available for free from that web site.

While it is true that the Windows XP MSConfig works on Windows 2000, abeit with a few glitches, I would not recommend it, because of these possible glitches.  Additionally, use of such software contravenes the EULA which was agreed to on the installation of Windows XP.
