Opening and closing a window

Closing all popup windows by BillyRayPreachersSon
Posted: 28 Jan 04 (Edited 27 Jun 07)

The following code is a cross-browser solution for closing all popup windows opened by a particular page:

    <script type="text/javascript">
        var childWindowHandles = new Array();

        function openNewWindow(url, params) {
            childWindowHandles[childWindowHandles.length] = window.open(url, '', params);

        function closeChildWindows() {
            for (var loop=0; loop<childWindowHandles.length; loop++) if (!childWindowHandles[loop].closed) childWindowHandles[loop].close();
<body onunload="closeChildWindows();">
Click <a href="javascript:openNewWindow('http://www.google.co.uk/', '');">here</a> to open another new window.

As long as you call the openNewWindow function to open your new windows, this will work.
