To do this follow these steps:
1. Open the file tree.utml from
<install drive>:\Program Files\Cognos\cer2\templates\upfront\en\standard70\common\tree.utml"
2. Make a backup of this file prior to making any changes.
3. Find and delete this section of code:
<td valign="bottom" align="left"><ahref="<%SYSTEM.UpfrontPath%>?xmlcmd=<GetPage><Template>search_options.utml</Template></GetPage><xsl:value-of select="substring-before(substring-after(string(/root/http/cookies/COG_UF70_UI),'sq'),'sq')"/>"
onMouseover="window.status='View Search Options'; return true;"
onMouseover="window.status=''; return true;"><img src="<%USER.ThemePath%>/images/tab_search_inactive.gif" border="0" alt ="View Search Options"></a></td>.
4. Save the file.
5) Launch Upfront.

The Search tab should now be removed.
