Minimized Programs Don't Show Up on Toolbar by carrr
Posted: 10 Dec 02 (Edited 10 Dec 02)

After seeing the umpteenth post querying members on programs/applications that disappear/fail to appear on the toolbar, I decided to post my first Tek-Tips FAQ.

After initially posting on this irritating phenom on 10/25/2002 [Thread615-390084], I and many other fine residents of Tek-Tips have responded ad nauseum.  Here's the fix for anyone in need of guidance:

You've picked up a worm called FriendGreeting, brought to you by Permissioned Media.  Yes, it's a marketing company that put this on your machine...or actually, you - or someone using your pc - consented to have it installed.
To find out more, go here:

To end the mystery, go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and find WinSrv Reg.  Uninstall it.
There are more elaborate instructions featured at the above link.
Also provided are a slew of sites that you might want to block or avoid to keep the problem from repeating itself.  If you don't want to leave Tek-tips, reference Thread615-405782 , where Crustyoldbloke provides a wellspring of information.
