How to copy a link from MS Support to a reply by rjkrash
Posted: 21 Dec 01

If you try to copy a link from the new Microsoft Help and Support Services page serch results you get something like this

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q102878

Which when pasted into a reply can't be read or used (because of the ; (semicolon) I think).  If you change the link to the following it will be a "clickable" link:

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q102/8/78.ASP

  This addition from dilettante -

When you have a link like:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q102878

  You can change it to:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3BEN-US%3BQ102878

... replacing the URL-encoding %3B for any semicolons.

Better still when searching for an answer on MS skip the "new, improved, user friendly" tool and go to the old version at

http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/c.asp

From there results are in the old format and can be copied (right click on article and Copy Shortcut) and pasted into a response.

Example of paste below

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q290/6/84.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=tech&FR=0&qry=remember%20password&rnk=3&src=DHCS_MSPSS_tech_SRCH&SPR=OL2002

You can delete from the paste everything from the first ? to the end the link will be cleaner and still work to the article

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q290/6/84.ASP
