Of course, apart of our tek-tips forum Microsoft has setup a news server (msnews.microsoft.com) that has a wide selection.  The ones that I currently know about are:

microsoft.public.sharepointportalserver.announcements.eng
microsoft.public.sharepointportalserver.docmgmt.office.eng
microsoft.public.sharepointportalserver.docmgmt.portal.eng
microsoft.public.sharepointportalserver.shell.eng
microsoft.public.sharepointportalserver.documentation.eng
microsoft.public.sharepointportalserver.installation.eng
microsoft.public.sharepointportalserver.poral.config.eng
microsoft.public.sharepointportalserver.portal.search.eng
microsoft.public.sharepointportalserver.scenarios.extranet
microsoft.public.sharepointportalserver.scenarios.hosting
microsoft.public.sharepointportalserver.sdk.eng
microsoft.public.sharepointportalserver.search.config.eng
microsoft.public.sharepointportalserver.workspace.config.eng
microsoft.public.digitaldashboard
microsoft.public.webstoragesystem.development
microsoft.public.webstoragesystem.sdk.eng

But if you feel more confortable using the HTTP version you better go to the sharepoint news groups: http://www.microsoft.com/sharepoint/using/newsgroups/default.asp
