 Powerpoint viewer's file association problem

Hi there,
One of the user XPSP2 machine with OEM office 2003 basic edition, which didn't have powerpoint2003.
Someone send email to this user with PPT attachment, I installed powerpoint viewer on this machine & after reboot, if I click the PPT attachment in Outlook Express, it said cannot find the associated application to open this file type. However from control panel's folder option, already set PPT& PPS to use powerpoint viewer, so don't know what's wrong.
Now can only save the attachment to local harddisk, then open the file from there, it works. It just don't work when directly opening as email attachment.
Wondering if this could be fixed? Many thanks! |

It is best to save the attached PPT/PPS file to a folder first. The viewer can get confused when looking inside a mail folder file. zacca, I believe as a result of Windows Service Pack 2, it blocks outlook express from running an attached powerpoint file directly. You have to save the file first. Cheers TAJ Simmons

When the PowerPoint viewer is installed, there is a file association made to point to the PowerPoint viewer but you need to modify this by going into the control panel, choose folder options then find the pps entry in the types list click on edit for that file extension. Next choose "restore" in that window, and then create a new file action, label it "Open" and then browse to the executable file for the PowerPoint viewer in the application line (that points to the PowerPoint viewer) you must encase the %1 with quotations so that long file names are recognized. Click OK all the way back to control panel, then switch to Oulook express and the file will open without a hitch.
