Line Mode Processing

In the past I have written a couple of applications using Extra interfacing to an IBM390 using page mode processing. Now I want to write an application interfacing to an F15 (Unix box).

My problem is that I need to log both incoming and outgoing screen information. A response from the F15 can be more than a whole page so I need to trap each line as it arrives, process it and write it to a log. The proceesing and logging are easy as I already have routines that can be bent to do this but I am at a loss how to read each line as it arrives.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
