Hi

I've just been given the WONDERFUL but necessary task of extracting all the data from a dataease database into an excel file.  I believe its a windows implementation of dataease (6?).

Does anyone know the best way to do this?  I haven't used dataease before ( and by the sound of most of your comments I will not want to either but well versed in Access.

Thanks in advance

Microsoft Knowledge Base article Q94194 explains how to create delimited files from DataEase which can then be opened in Excel. See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us...

A quicker option would appear to be DataGrab.exe see http://www.altf1.co.uk/Downloads/body_downloads.html

Excellent!

I suppose DataEase has some function to view entity relationships.  I'll have to check it when it arrives.

Hmm, now I've gotta quote for this ... any thoughts on the time it will take to extract the data?  about an hour?

Thanks again

Have exported from various versions of Dataease (but unfortunately not Version 6x) to Excel, and assume that version 6 has similar options to export data. But both suggestions by MikePL should do the trick.

Depends on how big the database is, but we export info from a Dataease database to Excel then e-mail the information. This contains several fields, and thousands of records, it takes only a few minutes for the whole operation, it really is simple to do! When a Client sends similar information to me, again it only takes a very short amount of time to get the info from Excel into the Dataease database.

Good Luck!

Thanks for you help so far Guys!

I've now got the zipped up file, unzipped it but cannot open the database!!! ARH! Basically I go to open the database File|Open, its there, I select it and the OK button refuses to turn Green!  I create a new application, close it and attempt to re-open that and ARGH! no green OK button.

I've also tried replacing this userform.xxx but get the same result. ARGH!

I also found out it DE version 4.5 for windows.  If you've got any ideas!  I should also mention that the designer put all the files in the executable directory!

I'm gonna keep at it tonight, but I might have to through in the towel soon.
