Macola 7.6.100A
Win2K server and workstations

These workstations were working until about 30 days ago; nothing changed as far as I know on the ones that are not working properly; no software installations, no crashes.

So....
When I hit F7 or the search button, for instance on the Item ID field in Inventory Item Maintenance, the search window comes up, but with only one column, and that has no heading.  No items are shown.  This happens in ALL search fields, but just on a few terminals.

Yes, I've logged the machines in as Administrator under Win2K and logged in as Supervisor into Macola; no joy.

Yes, I've logged a workstation that does work ok in as one of the users having problems, both into Windows and into Macola; the searches worked fine.

I've copied a good Macola7.ini and VTools.ini file from a machine that works to the machine that doesn't; no joy.

The only strange thing is that ODBC administrator under windows will not add or configure SQL connections, whether under File or System.  Can't seem to fix that.

In System Manager, trying to bring up the Search Editor results in an error saying there is a severe error.  I've followed Macola tips about reinstalling the workstation software; no joy.

Any suggestions?

Macola's Search program establishes a new database connection every time you bring up the window.  It does not use Macola's existing connection to the database, so it would be reasonable to link the problems you are having with ODBC to the Macola Search feature.  I would look in to resolving your ODBC issue through standard Microsoft channels, and then it would be reasonable to expect Macola to be fully functional again.

Scott is exactly correct in fact I just had this exact same thing happen to a client about 2 months ago.  Once we got the SQL Server ODBC DSN configured and working properly, the searches were fixed.

Can you use query analyzer on one of the computers where the search doesn't work?  Either as the user or as SA?

You mention that you can't create an ODBC connection to the database.  I'll assume that you've tried doing it as an administrator on the network.

Do you get an error message when trying to create the connection?

Thanks.  A re-install of ODBC fixed the problem.
