Hi -

I'm new to this forum -- and with a Eudora 6.0 issue.(running MsWindows xp on a Gateway 200XP with lots of RAM)

1. I finally managed to get Eudora V 6.0.1 installed and running after a myriad of freezes and false starts.

2. Now every time I close the program and start it up it freezes as soon as my new mail comes down. When this happens I look in the Eudora Spool folder (as suggested by Eudora tech support). I find files in it with a .rcv extension. When I move them out 6.0.1 starts up and operates in an orderly fashion even when bringing down new mail.BUT when I close Eudora down and restart it re-freezes when th next batch of mail comes down.

My questions are:

        1. What is causing those rcv files to show up in the Spool folder?
        2. How do I get Eudora stabilized so it behaves and stops freezing when I start it up and bring down my mail?

One solution is for me to revert to V5 which I hav edone temporaily) but I am so close to finally enjoying V6 that I'd like to stay with it if possible!

Is it worth the battle to get to use V6?

Thanks for your help!

Version 5.01 is no different to version 6.0.1, okay the layout and colours are different and it has a spam filter which is only gunna work properly in paid mode, we have used Eudora 5.1 here for a long time from upgrading from 3 and it has been no trouble, I myself have now installed 6.0.1 and am trialing it, and all is fine for me.

The .rcv files are temp files when downloading from the email server.  From the Eudora site: "If there are any files in it with a .rcv extension, move them into an empty folder. Now try and launch Eudora. If that resolves the problem, one of the messages contained in those .rcv files is causing the crash. Quit Eudora and put some of them back (but not all of them) and restart Eudora. If it does not crash, repeat this with another group of files. If it does crash, one or more of the files you put back is bad. Remove half of them and try again. Repeat this process until you find the culprit."

I find V6 much nicer than V5; the junk filter in paid mode is worth the price!
