Tektronix Phaser 340/350 service cable pinout? 1

Hello,

does any one have the pinouts for the service cable (which plugs in the 5pin mini-DIN port on the back of the printer) for a Tektronix (Xerox) Phaser 350 (should be the same as the on for the 340)?

Any help is appreciated,

Is this the cable thads been used for diagnostics. if so than you need also the software for this. this soft is only availleble at xerox. I am searching for the same cable

thanks for your reply - yep, I ment the service cable ... which is not the one that fits into the mini-DIN8 but
into the flat plug on the rear of the printer. Sorry for my mistake in the original first posting.

From what I can recall the plug has five pins, all of them having TTL levels. One of them is GND, the other two in pairs are for IN and OUT.

Simple circuitry around a MAX232 (TTL to RS232 level converter) and maybe a voltage regulator should do it. This is all the cable does.

So all we need is a description of the pins, the rest is pretty straight forward.

The part number for the cable is: 174-3493-00 (you should be able to order it)
I'm trying to find the pinout for you.. might have one of the cables laying around here.

Hello Dacurve,

thanks for the Xerox part number. Before I'm going to spend big bucks (more than a hundred dollars just for the "level shifter" adapter or cable) I'd like to know if I can get along with making a cable of my own.

It would be nice if you can post the pinout of the service plug or post the complete cabling from printer to PC/MAC here -- thanks in advance.

Hello world,

still looking for the pinout for the service cable to hook up the Phaser 350 to a Mac or a PC.

It would be very nice from anyone to post the wiring scheme of the cable or just the pinout of the five pins on back of the printer.

Sorry Oscar, I had a look around the office.. but couldn't find a cable. Couldn't find any info about the pinout either.

Oscar, only thing that I did find out is that the diagnostic cables for the phaser 840/850 are the same as for the 3-series. Still not able to find the pinout though.

any information is welcome - the fact that even on the newer printers the service cable is identical is yet another detail in the "finding the phaser pinout"-quest :)

i searched via google and yahoo but did not find the pinouts...

someone in this world must have the pinouts...

I just opened my diag cable assy. Seems there is more to it than i thought. From the 25 pin side of the serial cable there is a small pcb that plugs into it and it looks like pins 1,2,3 7,12,13 are connected to this board that has a diode and a IC but there are no markings on either to determine what they are. Hope this helps.

can u plz make a high res photo of your service-cable-pcb from both sides?

i need this cable but i read that it costs about 130 and that is too expensive.

i want to repair my phaser 360, it has the error as described in the thread you answered, but it seems that nobody can help me in this case :-(

WOW, just got a price on the test cable 201 dollars, xerox cost is 175 dollars. Well I hope that someone comes thur on this site with a how-to build your own test cable with pinouts.

Well I'm going to have to resverse engineer the cable, with the help from this forum. Man I wish I had a RS-232 testout box. I'll see if my friends have one. I know the cable is 5 pins, DB9 to DB25, for PCs use serial null modem cable, part number 012-1535-00.

Not sure what the Printer serial cable adapter (level shifter), part number 012-1543-00 is?

marty5261 could you please tell me the length of the test cable? and where it plus into? ie the RS-232 Service port is my guest.

If the 25-pin side follows standard RS-232 convention,
pin 1 will be chasis ground, pin 2 transmit data, pin 3
receive data, and pin 7 signal ground. The meaning of 2 & 3
may be reversed, depending if it's wired to look like a DTE
(PC port) or DCE (modem).

As someone pointed out earlier, the chip is most likely a
TTL to RS-232 level translator for the RD and TD lines.
My guess would be they are using 12 and/or 13 to supply
power to the translator chip.

For the person that took apart their cable (marty), it would
be interesting to probe pins 12 & 13 with a voltmeter with
the cable plugged into the printer.

Color of diode, ie black with silver or clear with orange?
And some voltmeter readings from the IC?

This info would help.

Here is a simple idea, has anyone check the main motherboard where the RS-232 service post is. Sometime the manufactures print the pinouts on the motherboard?

hello,

i measured the pins of the service connector from my tek phaser 360 board...

when u look from the panel, where the connectors are:


1 2 3 4 5
------------------
| . . . . . |
------------------
Service Only

there are:

1= tx/rx
2= n/c
3= 5Volt
4= tx/rx
5= gnd

how can i find out what tx and what rx is?
with the gnd, n/c and 5 volts i am very sure.

perhaps this can help somebody...

has anyone the service software (pc based diagnostics), can anybody send it via email???

please help us all ;)

together we'll solve the problem ;)
