Compaq Error Messages After Adobe Dowload. Can't Boot.

Hello. I feel like a steel band in a sea of golden beads.  I came upon your site and hoped that I might ask for your assistance.  Today I was downloading HP Scanner software which has Adobe programs on it, then tried to restart and couldn't.  Error Messages stopped me cold...I don't have the exact messages here, but it was something like Msprsv32 and Mpre.exe  both having to do with User.exe.  I just don't know how to proceed.  I assume I need to do an msconfig but haven't a clue what to do.  I have all the particulars at work. If anyone out there wouldn't mind being my hero, I sure would be grateful.

Please accept my best thank you for your assistance.
I remain,  Desperate,  Susan

Hello forum.
For this time i'ma not going to give an answer, I'm sorry.

I just want to say that I thing I had the same problem installing a Nt server on a compaq EXD.
After installing the server with Service pack 6a, I did install the Acrobat Reader v4x, and I got a "Missing a file kernel" (or something alike) error message when booting the server.

Does anyone out there have a clue ?

Your inclusion of the term msconfig leads me to believe you are using Windows 98, but you don't specify. You can try booting to DOS and running scanreg /repair or simply install 98 back over the top of the existing installation. You won't lose anything with that.

Alternatively, I would go to HP or Adobe's sites and look for errors and solutions in thier knowledgebases. Even an ntfs partitioned server can be brought back without a reinstallation in many cases.
