Using VPN and surfing internet concurrently

Using VPN and surfing internet concurrently

(OP)
Hi All, I'm using Nortel's Contivity VPN Client to remote access into work but I can't surf internet while so connected.  Can anyone tell me how I can surf internet at the same time?  When I log in I need to first punch in a password in a security card, then enter the generated password into the VPN client.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I also looked at this post at

but I think it's either too technical for me or it doesn't apply.

Thanks!

RE: Using VPN and surfing internet concurrently

You might try posting this question over in the Virtual Private Networks (VPN) thread.  This is for the IPX protocol Not much browsing happens over IPX these days :)

One thing you might try to look at is your VPN configuration, if you have a setting like "Use gateway on remote network" and it's checked then try to remove the check mark.  It could be that your company is restricting Internet browsing over the VPN connection.

Thanks for your reply.  I will repost this in the VPN thread.

Yes my company is definitely restricting browsing over VPN connection.  Given that, would clearing the "Use gateway on remote network" still work?  (I'm in the office right now.)

RE: Using VPN and surfing internet concurrently

Basically using the remote gateway on remote network means is that you'll use your VPN connection to send all packets that are not for your local network to your default gateway on your VPN connection.  Removing the check mark will use your local NIC gateway address to send the packets to.
