Windows and Exchange 2003 Installation gone bad

Ok, I was bored one day and decided to upgrade my lab to a windows 2003 environment.  I was already running a server with Windows 2000 with the AD and Exchange 2000 running fine.  I built a new server with Windows 2003 Enterprise and migrated the AD from the 2000 server to the 2003 server.  Went flawless, all except I didn't remember to uninstall exchange 2000 (didn't know if this would be a problem).  I also moved the DNS and DHCP server to the Win2003 server.  Once it was up and running, I rebuilt the original Windows 2000 server from scratch to another Windows 2003 server.  Afterwards I promoted it to a backup domain controller, which also went fine.  Than I installed Exchange 2003 on this server.  If you follow Microsoft's Deployment guide, the install is flawless.  Now I ran into problems.  The information store service does not appear to be available.  When I go to the Exchange System Manager and click on First Storage, I am getting an error (C1041721).  I am wondering if this is because when I migrated the AD to win2003 I had exchange 2000 integrated into the AD and I did not uninstall it?  If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.  I am stumped.

Exchange 2000 SP3 is compatible with W2K3.  I suspect either you weren't at SP3, or something went wrong during the install.  Have you checked the setup log?

If you ever did any tweaking of E2K, you should remove the tweaks.  Did you by any chance see a 9542 in your application log?  If so, what was the text of it?

So what your saying is that after installing Ex2003 I need to install the Ex2000 SP3?

You should have been at SP3 prior to installing 2003.
