I have a Netware 4.11 spa7 that is a old p.c. built to run as a server with no backup unit on it.I have a new p.c that I would like to tranfer all the data from the old server to the server with the new hardware.The new p.c does have Netware 4.11 spa7 already running on it and a backup unit running Arcserve 6.1 but I'm still working on that.There are no array controllers or raid of any sort.What tool or utility is the best for this type of situation.Also these p.c.s are not brand names (Compaq,HP,Gateway,Dell etc...)Thanks in advance

You haven't mentioned HOW much data, or even if the servers are on the same LAN (can see each other).

What I would do is use a decent workstation logged into each server simultaneously, then a tool such as NWCopy to move all the data from FS1/VOL1: to FS2/VOL1: (or whatever).  All rights/permissions/extended attributes will be preserved.

As a possible faster option, you could always temporarily install the disk(s) from the old server into the new server then do the NWCopy using the 'In Server' option.  I've never tried this but it could work, assuming the volume names are different.

Thanks for the info.Both servers will be on the same lan with different names.The first server only has a 8 gig harddrive and the new one has a 30 gig.

A better option over NWCopy would be using the Consolodation Wizard to move the files.

What I would do is rip the new backup unit out of the new server, install it into the old server and backup the system.  Then, using INSTALL, do a backup of NDS before a hardware upgrade.  This will make a copy of the NDS database on the DOS partition (and will close and lock NDS).  Copy the backup file to the new server.  Give the new server the same name and same internal IPX number as the old server, restore NDS.  Then do a full restore from tape overwriting everything.  

Done this many times, it's pretty dependable.
