Mapper Migration from Unixyx 2200 Mainframe

We are currently running our MAPPER environment on the UNISYS 2200 platform. We are in the initial stages of Migrating from the UNISYS 2200 platform to a Unix platform, and also wish to migrate our MAPPER environment to the Unix platform. We will be using our Oracle database and are also looking for a web portal and possible development in a WebSphere environment. Does anyone have information on MAPPER migration strategy and process.

Are the plans to move from Mapper, or use Mapper in Unix and access Oracle?

Is the migration a a cost issue, flexability issue or both.

We have been talking about this for a couple of years. Porting the applications and databases is fairly easy but, not without issues.  Some of the 2200 commands will not work on the Unix platform so you will have to ID those commands and the runs that use them for reprogramming.

Unisys, naturally for a fee, would probably be will to assist.  There are several other good consultancies that could also assist in this venture. A couple of them have utilities that will snoop for those runs that need reprogramming.

There are a couple of good MAPPER web enabling products.  the one reccommended by Unisys is Cool-ICE.

If you are going to stay in Mapper on the Unix System, my understanding is that the process is straightforward, but I don't have a lot of experience with it.

If you want to migrate *out* of Mapper to some other language (given that you seem to want your data
in Oracle, I think this is necessary).
Formula Consultants can apparantly help.
www.formula.com.

I'm not "formula.com", but we've talked to them
about this in the past, and they seem to know
Mapper and migration pretty well.

If you wish to stay in mapper you can access data from Oracle through Mapper Commands that let you access the Oracle data directly, e.g. @SQL command to do SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE etc...  :)

The MAPPER staff at CIBER has done more MAPPER migrations than anyone. They can migrate MAPPER applications from the 2200 to MAPPER on UNIX, Windows or Linux. They also have utilities for automating the migration of MAPPER data into Oracle.
