I would much appreciate if i can get some advice from you concerning the implementation of a Manufacturing Software.

The software will be used for the manufacturing of sewing thread, which involved several complex processes and uses many raw materials.

We hired a consultant some times back, but he was looking for ERP stuffs which was costing us several hundreds of  thousands bucks.  I am not against ERP's, but i would rather invest in something which is user friendly, very stable ( to be installed on a File Server - WinNT SP6 ), bearing a report generator in it and enabling us with several analysis and reports.

I checked at Alpha Five, but this one requires complex programming techniques and couples of programers to be recruited here.  Cost is Key element.

I hope i can get some ideas and suggestions fom you.

if you want it very stable get it off NT and put it on UNIX

I don't think this is the right place to ask about this - but I can't suggest an alternative.

Oracle do a manufacturing application but from your post it sounds like you want something cheaper ?

Try going to the APICS.com (American Production Inventory Control society) web site. This type of question is what they do for a living, getting the best techiques for manufacters.

The have comparisions of various software. Most are ERP systems, with the prices to match. You will have to establish WHAT you need to do with the software BEFORE you shop, & this will make the selection much easier.
